Flapper Nimble+ (Base Kit) contains just the essentials needed to fly and is the ideal option when building up a swarm, or when you already have a compatible transmitter or Crazyradio. Manual flight is always possible with the Crazyflie Client Android/iOS app.
The Flapper Nimble+ is the world’s first commercially available tailless flapping wing robot. It is a development platform focused on universities, research labs, drone show operators as well as other users who are eager to explore the emerging field of bioinspired aerial robotics.
Unlike quadcopters, the 49-cm wingspan Nimble+ is safe and even tolerates small collisions. Its soft flapping-wings not only bounce off objects but also produce a less intrusive, low frequency sound. The insect-inspired wing actuation mechanisms and active stabilization algorithms ensure a stable yet very responsive and agile flight. The Nimble+ can hover, take-off and land vertically, turn around its vertical axis and flying forward or sideways at speeds ranging from 0 to well over 5 m/s.
The Nimble+ is powered by the Crazyflie Bolt 1.1. This means it still enjoys the same perks as the Crazyflie quadcopters, including the low-latency/long-range radio, Android/iOS app or interfaces for additional sensors. And what is best, it is compatible with the Crazyflie open-source software ecosystem and many of the sensor deck expansions.
At the minimum take-off weight of 102 grams, the standard battery provides up to 8 minutes of flight time. Even with the maximum recommended payload of 25 grams (sensors, decorations, …) the battery will last for over 5 minutes. The Nimble+ is delivered in a practical flight case (46 x 33 x 15 cm) and can be set up for flight in no time.
The typical use cases range from academic research (flight dynamics, flight control, swarming) and education (animal flight, bioinspired robotics) to entertainment (drones shows, flying characters).
